Sky News reports that from next week, passengers at Manchester Airport will be greeted by holograms of staff in a bid to reduce security check queues.

The initiative is being trialled at terminal one where passengers are being met by holograms of real-life employees. The digital illusions will greet travellers before they go into the security search area, explaining liquid restrictions and reminding customers about boarding cards.
The images of the customer service workers were created using the same cutting edge technology which is used in the music industry by bands such as the Gorillaz.
The technology is amazing and I have included a video below which shows just how effective it can be. Given the scale of the Government’s agenda for UK policing, perhaps holograms of officers might be the next ‘big idea’ to increase visibility? All joking aside, they could certainly be useful additions to events policing, performing the same explanatory and guidance function as is envisaged at Manchester Airport, but with a suitable police flavour. It’s an interesting thought.

Once you start thinking about it there could be all sorts of other possible uses for such apps? People with boats such as RIB’s in flood vulnerable areas maybe?
