Police leadership blogging

Thursday, April 13, 2006 in Blog

Business_week_cover_blogs_1There can be little arguing with the power, effectiveness and reach of blogs. You’re reading this aren’t you ?

The very essence of blogging is the art of engaging in a conversation with your audience. Blogging provides an additional communication channel which is both interactive and cost effective.

A good blog is one that places the blogger close to their community of interest and provides content that is relevant to them and stimulates their interaction.

The local police chief (the BCU or District Commander) is the visible face of policing in an area. He or she is the person that people want to hear from and discuss issues with. Blogging provides a tool to allow them to do that.To show community leadership. In addition to the things that they already do, it provides an additional way to engage with and interact with their communities and stakeholders.

As a long time advocate of police blogging, I was delighted to meet up again this week with Griff Wigley. Griff and I first met and discussed the potential for police leadership blogging during my time at the Home Office. Griff is an experienced blogging coach and has been working very successfuly with the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and a range of councils in the UK to develop leadership blogging for councillors.

Griff and I are now collaborating on offering leadership blogging/podcasting training for the law enforcement community in both the UK and the US. We’ll keep you posted, but if you can’t wait…contact us.
